When asked about the salary indexation and the proposals that various sectors to apply it, the Minister of Finance and Economy, Magin Diazreiterated that the Government is willing to evaluate alternatives as long as they do not compromise the fiscal stability.
“From the beginning I have been very clear that the Government is open to see alternatives. Alternatives that do not put at risk the fiscal stability“said Díaz.
The minister stated that “it is time to discuss options“, but noted that any change must be made “gradually”, since an abrupt application would generate loss of resources for the State.
Upon leaving a bicameral meeting about the project General Budget 2026Magín assured that the Government is willing to listen to proposals and analyze them in search of a consensus.

About whether the indexing could be included in the budget, Díaz specified that it is not mandatory: “It can be a separate law. “That is a decision of the congressmen.”
There is other taxes to index
The official also indicated that the discussion should not focus solely on the salary indexation.
“It would be good to discuss many other measures, not just one. There are many other taxes that are not being indexed. There are prices that are subsidized, such as that of electrical energythe water, the garbage. So we are just talking about one issue,” he said.
On his side, the People’s Force deputy, Jose David Baezstated that he was not satisfied with the answers about indexing of the official.
He said he asked if the Ministry has any plan or initiative under study to address the citizen demandbut the response was that the Government is open to the issue “under a general matter” that reviews other situations.
“We said that we have no problem with that. Now, let there be a proposal,” he said.
Báez maintained that the bench states that, although the current income tax threshold is 34,685 pesosthe law establishes which should have been indexed up to 52 thousand pesos.
“While it is true, it may not be 34 or 52 thousand, but that we reach a intermediate and that the population feels that we are paying attention to them,” he said.
