An irregular situation was recorded this Monday morning in the city of Barinas, after an alleged mass poisoning was reported at the Liceo Bolivariano 25 de Mayo.
The incident resulted in the impact of at least 37 people, including students and teaching staff.
According to the initial report from police officials, the balance of those affected amounts to 33 students and 4 teachers. The victims presented symptoms such as difficulty breathing, fainting and seizures, which forced their immediate transfer to the emergency room at the Dr. Luis Razetti Hospital in Barinas.
According to information from relatives, at least four patients required oxygen supply.
In addition, after the admission of those affected, it was said that doctors and health personnel also began to show symptoms of the alleged poisoning.
Given the seriousness of the event, security and intelligence agencies were deployed both in the high school facilities and in the hospital with the aim of initiating an exhaustive investigation to determine the nature of the toxic substance and the causes behind this massive incident.
Authorities have not issued an official statement on the possible source of the poisoning.
Two other similar events have already been recorded in the entity this school year.
