Is there enough money? Congressmen will receive S/ 46,900 in December between salaries, bonuses and electronic cards

Slap on poverty in the country. In December, each congressman of the Republic will receive a total of S/ 46,900, an amount that includes remuneration, gratuity, bonus for congressional function, allowance per week of representation and an electronic card of S/ 1900, according to official information released by Fourth Estate.

The Legislature acquired 4,500 electronic cards, each valued at S/ 1,900, which represents a total expense of S/ 8.55 million.

These will be distributed among congressmen, plant workers and trusted personnel as part of the end-of-year labor benefits.

The additional payments given to congressional staff are supported by a collective bargaining agreement in effect through 2025, which establishes financial allowances, bonuses and other benefits.

The Comptroller General of the Republic does not intervene in these types of agreements because they are internal agreements between Congress and its union.

In October, the Board of Directors approved the formation of a commission in charge of negotiating the new collective agreement for the period 2026-2027, which could expand or modify this type of benefits.

What concepts make up the S/46,900 that each legislator will receive?

The total amount corresponds to the sum of regular and additional benefits that parliamentarians receive each month: monthly salary, legal bonus for December, bonus for congressional function, allowance per week of representation and institutional electronic card of S/ 1900.

Congress has asked the Executive for a budget of S/ 700 million to ensure these payments and others included within the current collective agreement.

Unlike the general State regime, where workers receive bonuses and bonuses established by law, Parliament provides additional benefits derived from its collective agreement.

The extraordinary bonus of S/ 1900 included in the electronic card, for example, is not granted en masse to all state workers, which is why it constitutes a exclusive benefit of Congress.
