SANTO DOMINGO.- An ex-convict turned himself in to authorities after confessing to having murdered his mother and her brother during a violent family conflict that occurred this Sunday in the San Felipe sector, in Villa Mella, Santo Domingo Norte.
Victims and Identification
The victims were identified as Mrs. Anatalia Rodríguez, 60 years old (known as “Morena”), and her son, Pedro Daniel Cordero Rodríguez, 29 years old (aka “Peter”).
The bodies were found around 8:50 in the morning inside their residence, located on Backaldo La Gloria Street in the aforementioned community. Both presented short-blunt wounds with skull fractureaccording to the preliminary report.
The Aggressor and Background
Although the National Police did not initially identify the attacker in their report, it was confirmed that the double murderer showed up voluntarily at Police Detachment N-1 in the district, where he confessed to the crime.
The Police indicated that the attacker had been released from prison approximately five months after serving a sentence for a rape case. A close relative of the victims reported that, since his release, the detainee showed a unusual behavior.
Investigation Details
The first investigations indicate that the motive for the crime was allegedly family conflicts.
After the confession at the detachment, the aggressor was arrested and the investigative units and the Scientific Police were notified.
During the inspection of the crime scene, the Scientific Police collected two bloody iron bars (one with a wooden handle and another partially bent) that are presumed to have been used to commit the double homicide.
The bodies of Anatalia and Pedro Daniel Cordero Rodríguez were transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding forensic studies. The detainee remains in custody and will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry in the next few hours.
