“Those who commit crimes will have to respond to the authorities and we express our solidarity with the people who unfortunately were injured yesterday in this event,” said the capital’s president this Sunday, when leading the reopening of the last section of Metro Line 1.
The protest left 120 people injured – 100 police officers and 20 civilians – as well as 40 people detained and brought before the Public Ministry or the Civic Court, the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) reported yesterday.
The capital’s president indicated that 14 members of the SSC are still hospitalized and sent an acknowledgment to the Mexico City Police.
“We will not respond with repression but it is our obligation to care for and protect everyone, guarantee peace and also apply the law when necessary, with serenity and firmness.”
Clara Brugada, head of Government of CDMX
The policy emanating from Morena – the party in power in the federal and capital governments – attributed the demonstration to opposition political groups.
“Our city, which is pacifist, will never accept violence in the streets and attempts to sow chaos will always fail, we will not fall for any provocation. We invite, summon and exhort everyone to always express themselves in a peaceful manner. The route is always peace, the path will have to be democracy.
“It is our obligation to point out that the march was promoted by the same conservative groups as always that do not agree with the transformation of Mexico. They are old groups dedicated to the cause of the youth and we say it as it is,” he assured.
