The academic Rosalía Sosa Pérez announced this Sunday that he is formally declining his aspiration to the Rectorate of the UASDto support the doctor Jorge Asjana Davidwith whom it will form an alliance “that ensures and guarantees unity, continuity and institutional transformation.”
Sosa affirmed that his decision responds to a commitment to institutional stability and the need for “a mature leadershipunitary and capable of consolidating the advances of the oldest university of America”.
“The UASD needs unity and vision. That is why I decline my aspiration to support, with deep conviction, Dr. Jorge Asjana David and join the Ashjan Grand Alliance Rector 2026–2030“he expressed in a press release.
During his speech, Sosa highlighted the role of the university as an engine of social mobility, recalling that 70% of the university’s graduates UASD are first generation university in their families.
He stressed the urgency of deepening key institutional processes such as; comprehensive digitization of academic services, strengthening of relevant researchmodernization of physical and technological infrastructure, internationalization and community linkage, evaluation and transparency in the use of resources.
He also called to dignify the teaching work, guarantee better conditions jobs and strengthen student monitoring from entry to exit.
- “Autonomy is honored with work, efficiency and results. UASD must teach, transform and build the future,” he said.
While, when pronouncing the welcome words, the candidate for vice-rector of extension, Gerardo Roahighlighted that the teacher Rosalía Sosa Pérezis the authorized voice and ethical reference to accompany in the fight for a better institutional future, without reservations, to Jorge Asjana David.
Likewise, the teacher Juan Francisco Viloria praised the professional, human and academic qualities of Sosa Pérez, highlighting that he has a exemplary career at the Faculty of Legal and Political Science, from which he founded the chair, UASD-UNESCO, after being director of postgraduate studies and then vice dean.

When he spoke, the doctor Jorge Asjana David publicly thanked Sosa for his decision, whom he defined as a committed academiccoherent and highly socially sensitive.
“Today we received the teacher Rosalía Sosa and all his team. Not only are we going to win, we are going to govern together the next four years“Asjana said.
The candidate highlighted that the university is only 13 years away from turning 500, which he said places it before the historic challenge to project academic advancesscientists and social links that live up to their legacy.
He emphasized that the UASD must respond to the real needs of the country through relevant research, curriculum updateentrepreneurship programs and academic offerings tailored to the communities.
“The dominican society expects more from us because she is convinced that without UASD there is no possible development. Our challenge is to become the academic center of the world when we reach 500 years,” he stated.
Jorge Asjana David He stated that the incorporation of the teacher Rosalía Sosa Pérez and his team Great Alliance “United by the UAS” marks a decisive point for the institution, which needs unity, maturity and strategic vision to face the great challenges of the present and immediate future.
During a massive event which brought together hundreds of candidates for elective positions and followers of both teams, held in Saint DominicAsjana expressed her gratitude for the support received from past and current authorities, national delegations and members of the university community.
“Before continuing with the greetings and thanks, I want to make a special recognition to the former rector Franklin Garcia Fajardo for his defense of public higher education, and also to the former rector, Julio Ravelo de la Fuenteas well as all the authorities, teachers, students and delegations that have moved from all over the country. Today we have to give thanks.”
The academic highlighted that the teacher’s decision Rosalía Sosa postponing his rectorship aspirations to join his candidacy decisively strengthens the management project promoted by his team for the period 2026–2030.
