The awarding of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to the leader Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado was received in exile and the opposition as a recognition that transcends the individual figure, becoming a tribute to the resilience and fight of the Venezuelan people for democracy.
The campaign command @ConVzlaComando published a message on the social network sentiment widely reflected among Venezuelan activists.
The message honors those affected by the country’s humanitarian and political crisis. “For the mothers who wait, For the children who are missing, For the prisoners who watch the sun between bars, For those who left leaving promises, For those who fight tirelessly.”
The publication concludes that by saying Machado’s name in Oslo, one will be paying tribute to a greater cause. “When they pronounce the name of @mariacorinaya in Oslo, we will know that the Nobel will be a tribute to an entire people who bravely resisted. The Nobel is yours and mine. The Nobel belongs to everyone. The Nobel belongs to Venezuela.”
Resistance and international recognition
The award is interpreted as a boost to sectors that have been repressed, imprisoned or forced into exile. Political prisoners, migrants and human rights activists are considered the true recipients of the award.
For María Corina Machado, the Nobel Prize reinforces the legitimacy of the opposition and raises the profile of the Venezuelan crisis to the highest international level, dismissing the narrative of “normality” that Chavismo tries to project.
The award comes at a time of escalation, where the United States has applied sanctions against figures of the regime and has reinforced its military presence in the Caribbean, actions that Machado has defended as necessary to stop the “war” started by the Maduro government.
