The US president avoided going deeper, although he insisted that his government would be open to any type of contact. “Venezuela wants to talk, what does that mean, tell me? (…) Yes, I talk to anyone, I talk to you, right?” he added.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, hinted this Sunday that talks could be taking place with Nicolás Maduro, at a time of maximum tension between Washington and Caracas due to the extensive US military deployment in the Caribbean.
“We may be talking, we may be having some conversations with Maduro. We’ll see how it turns out, they would like, they would like to talk,” Trump told reporters in Palm Beach, in statements that marked a discursive turn with respect to his latest messages on Venezuela.
When asked for more details, the president avoided going deeper, although he insisted that his government would be open to any type of contact. “Venezuela wants to talk, what does that mean, tell me? (…) Yes, I talk to anyone, I talk to you, right?” he added.

The claims come days after the US government activated new phases of the Southern Spear military operation, with multiple warships and tactical units deployed in waters near Venezuela.
Trump, for his part, acknowledged before the press that the recent designation of Venezuela as a country that hosts transnational criminal organizations “allows” the United States to attack military assets or infrastructure within the country, although he clarified that this action has not been taken.
“It allows us to do that, but we have not said that we are going to do that, and we could discuss with Venezuela,” he said.
