General elections: Registration to choose a voting location begins on November 23

Starting next Sunday, November 23, thousands of voters from all over the country will be able to access the Choose your voting location platform where they can select their voting locations for the elections. general elections which will take place on April 12, 2026.

The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) specified that citizens will be able to choose up to three locations close to the address indicated on their National Identity Document (DNI) in order to have facilities for travel on voting day.

As recalled, voters had time until October 14 to make any changes to the information recorded in their DNI. On that date the deadline to update the electoral roll closed.

Marisol Cuéllar, ONPE electoral education specialist, explained that the Choose your voting location platform will be open from Sunday, November 23 to Sunday, December 14.

“If my DNI is in Comas and I change to other districts, I will be able to choose the voting location in Comas, because that is what it appears on my DNI on the closing date of the electoral roll. All subsequent address changes will not appear because there was a cutoff on October 14,” he explained.

He stressed that what is sought with this platform is to facilitate citizens’ access to voting points and for the elections to take place smoothly and quickly.

He added that after voters choose their options, ONPE will inform in a timely manner which of the three selected locations their voting station will be located in.

More than 27 million voters

At the end of October, the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) formally sent the lists of the initial registry for the 2026 general elections to the National Elections Jury (JNE).

According to the data, the electoral population to date is 27 million 356 thousand 578 Peruvians inside and outside the country. Of this total, 13 million 795 thousand 688 are women (50.4%) and 13 million 560 thousand 890 (49.6%) are men.

The highest concentration of voters is among young people between 18 and 29 years old, who total 6 million 893 thousand 252 and represent 25.2% of the total.
