The National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences revealed that there were seven minors who died from the bombing that President Gustavo Petro ordered against the FARC dissidents in Guaviare.
The figure means an increase of one more victim compared to the balance reported by the ombudsman, Iris Marín, this same Saturday. Forensic Medicine indicated that it received twenty bodies after the operation on November 12.
“Seven of the lifeless bodies received by the Institute are minors,” stated the director of the Institute, Ariel Cortés, in an official communication. Four of the minor victims were female, and three were male.
The Institute will send the results to the Attorney General’s Office, which is already carrying out an investigation into the results of the operation, which President Petro defended by ensuring that he avoided an ambush.

One day after the bombing in Guaviare, the president admitted that he ordered a similar offensive in Arauca, a department bordering Venezuela where the ELN and FARC dissidents are present.
According to the head of state, the dissidents under the command of Néstor Gregorio Vera, alias ‘Iván Mordisco’, were preparing an attack with 150 men against twenty “young soldiers”, so the bombing was necessary.
“To the extent that the percentage of minors in forced recruitment is high, the death of minors in combat can occur,” he wrote in a tweet in which he described Guaviare as an area of ”little intelligence.”
Until now, it is presumed that the murdered minors were victims of forced recruitment. Forensic Medicine advances in the identification of twenty corpses. The results of Arauca are not yet known.
Thirteen of the bodies were men, Director Cortés clarified, and seven were women. That is, the majority of deceased women were minors. Four cadavers analyzed required observation of a dental chart.
