The Hospital das Clínicas of the University of São Paulo (HC USP) will have the first smart hospital in the Unified Health System (SUS) implemented by the Ministry of Health. In addition to the Emergency Technological Institute of the Hospital das Clínicas of USP, the ministry will implement a national network of high-precision health services, which also includes 14 ICUs in the five regions of the country and the modernization of excellent units in Rio de Janeiro and the Federal District.
The cooperation agreement signed this Friday (14), formalizes the partnership with USP and the state of São Paulo, which will transfer the land. The Ministry of Health completes the final stages of the investment request with the BRICS Bank to make the project viable, in the order of R$1.7 billion.
According to the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, the smart hospital and the high-precision service network are only possible thanks to international cooperation, which involves development banks, strategic partners and research institutions.
“Brazil is entering with strength this new global environment of health reorganization, where information technology, artificial intelligence and innovative practices are redesigning the way people are cared for. This project is a milestone for the SUS, for technological innovation and for the country’s role on the international stage”, stated the minister.
The creator of the Smart Urgency and Emergency Hospital project, Professor of Emergencies at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo, Ludhmila Hajjar, highlighted the importance of creating smart hospitals in the country.
“The critically ill, emergency patient is the one who benefits most from these time-reducing technologies, which will introduce personalized therapies. This hospital takes a leap towards precision medicine, centered on the patient. It is a SUS that will efficiently and safely take care of highly complex patients”, he said.
The SUS’s national network of high-precision medicine services is part of the Ministry of Health’s Agora Tem Especialistas Program, aimed at expanding specialized care.
In March this year, Padilha presented the proposal for the implementation of the national smart services network with the BRICS Bank. In July, the demand was announced by President Dilma Rousseff, during a meeting of the bloc’s leaders in Rio de Janeiro.
In October, during an official agenda in China, Padilha signed technological cooperation agreements with Chinese institutions and presented the project to the bank to reinforce the institution’s financial support for the construction of the institute.
A technical mission from the BRICS bank has already visited the site planned for the construction of the new HC-USP Institute, with the signing of the ACT by the Ministry of Health, government of the State of São Paulo, Faculty of Medicine of USP and Hospital das Clínicas being the last document for the final evaluation.
