The dog that outraged the country now begins a new stage: a home, a symbolic title and a dignified life.
Bizcocho, the dog who was the victim of abuse in Bolívar, begins a new life under the care of the Antioquia Police, while the judicial process against his attacker progresses.
The country learned its story on November 3, when a video shocked several social media users: a light-coated dog, tied up, was beaten by a man identified as Fernando Alonso Oviedo, in the department of Bolívar.
The images caused outrage, rejection and a wave of messages demanding justice for the animal, which reached the hearts of thousands of people under the name that identifies it today: “Bizcocho.”
Within hours, the dog’s story began to take unexpected turns. After the episode of abuse, Oviedo took the animal to the Yarumal Police Station, in the north of Antioquia, and He delivered it under the name “Sicario”a name that, for the uniformed officers and veterinarians who immediately intervened, did not coincide with the nobility of the animal they had in front of them.
It was the veterinary team at Remington University, Medellín headquarters, that assumed his physical and emotional recovery. There, far from the blows and the risk, the animal He received a new name: “Bizcocho”, a symbolic gesture that marked the beginning of his new life.
Since then, his case aroused solidarity. Dozens of families, foundations and even public institutions sent requests to adopt him. One of the most visible was that of the commander of the Antioquia Police, Colonel Óscar Mauricio Rico, who publicly expressed his intention to provide him with a safe home.

Finally, this Thursday, the governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona, confirmed the fate of the animal: Cake will be delivered to the Antioquia Police Departmentwho will completely assume your care, your well-being and, of course, all the affection that you did not receive in your past.
The announcement was accompanied by another detail that excited many: The dog will not only have a home, but also a symbolic title. From now on he will be known as “Coronel Bizcocho”, a gesture that recognizes his resilience and the impact he generated on thousands of Colombians.
The delivery of the canine will take place in the coming days, when its medical recovery process is completed and it is guaranteed that it is completely stable to begin this new stage, surrounded by uniformed personnel who, according to the governor himself, “will be in charge of giving it a dignified, safe and affectionate life.”

The court case
While Bizcocho advances in his recovery, justice also takes its course. On November 12, a prosecutor from the Specialized Group in the Fight against Animal Abuse (Gelma), of the Bolívar Section, charged Fernando Alonso Oviedo with for the crime of injuries that seriously impair the health or physical integrity of an animal, in aggravated modality. During the hearing, Oviedo accepted the charges.
