The Rio Civil Police will deliver 1,600 cell phones recovered in Rio de Janeiro to their owners. Victims of stolen or stolen devices will receive their property back next Tuesday (18). This is another stage of Operation Rastreio, the largest initiative ever carried out in the state to combat the criminal chain involved in robberies, thefts and theft of telephone devices.RJ Civil Police will return 1,600 recovered cell phones to their owners

Since the start of the operation, more than 10,000 cell phones have been recovered, with around 2,800 returned to their true owners. The operation also resulted in the arrest of more than 700 criminals, including armed robbers, thieves who steal from victims, mainly on the streets, and device receivers.

Victims are already being contacted by call or WhatsApp message, through the police stations’ working telephone numbers, to attend the previously informed delivery points. Refunds occur in all regions of the state.

The initiative reinforces the commitment to guaranteeing the restitution of stolen assets and dismantling the illegal cell phone trade, which fuels different criminal practices. In addition to recovering devices, the operation has increased the liability of recipients and intermediaries who support the illicit market.

In July, the Civil Police made the first major delivery of recovered devices, when 1,400 cell phones were returned to their owners. With this new symbolic event, the institution reinforces its commitment to the population of Rio de Janeiro.

The Civil Police advises consumers to only purchase devices in trustworthy places, demand an invoice and be wary of prices well below the market.
