Workers in the oil and gas industry want effective participation in policy discussions for a fair, sovereign and popular energy transition. The proposals to make the process viable were presented by the Single Federation of Oil Workers (FUP), during COP30, in Belém (PA).
Among the main suggestions are the construction of a strategic transition plan, prepared together with workers, with the guarantee of professional training and the generation of quality jobs; the expansion of investments in low-carbon technologies and the promotion of regional development.
“It is important to have an energy transition that strengthens collective bargaining, respect for workers’ rights, removing threats of precarious work, and that guarantees sustainable development”, highlighted the general coordinator of FUP, Deyvid Bacelar
He participated in the panel Union action in the Global South for a fair and popular energy transitionwhich was attended by the Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinho.
For Bacelar, climate change brings the opportunity for a new development project for the country, associating industrial technical progress with the promotion of solid social and environmental guarantees.
“To build an alternative to the inefficient model of the market economy, it is necessary to ensure that the energy transition is socially fair, economically viable and effective in achieving climate goals”, he assessed.
Equatorial Margin
The FUP considers the exploration of the Equatorial Margin important for national energy security and reducing dependence on imports of petroleum derivatives in the long term, especially in the North and Northeast regions.
“The region needs to be recognized as a strategic area, implementing the production sharing model”, highlights Bacelar.
