With cake in hand and singing Happy Birthday, the members of the National Convergence protested on the esplanade of the Attorney General’s Office, denouncing the embezzlement in the ARS National Health Insurance (SeNaSa) and the impunity that, according to what they claim, is maintained due to political pressure to protect the businessman involved in the case.
The group, represented by lawyer Miguel Surún, assured that there is total impunity due to political pressures aimed at protecting the businessman. Eduardo Read Estrella already Santiago Hazim, close collaborators of the President of the Republic, who would be involved in the fraudulent disbursement of RD$23 billion intended for fictitious medical care.
Surún added that the fraud was committed through the Subsidized Health Insurance, through the holding companies Khersun, SRL, Deleste, SRL and Farmacard, SRL, and that the participation of several pharmacy chains is also mentioned, including Farmacia GBC.
“There is no way to justify that, after a year after the multimillion-dollar SeNaSa fraud was discovered, there has not been a forceful response from the Attorney General’s Office, in order to punish the vile theft of resources intended for health from the ARS SeNaSa subsidized regime,” said Surún.
He also denounced the existence of untouchable corrupt groups that are above the law, regardless of whether they are responsible for the bankruptcy of the poor’s health system, “stealing more than RD$41,000 million.”
At the end of the protest, the protesters distributed the cake among those attending, in a symbolic “celebration” for the first anniversary of the embezzlement from SeNaSa.
