The Cuban singer-songwriter Carlos Varela was forced today to cancel his presentations on November 14 and 15 at the Flamingo Theater in Miami, due to a delay of more than a month in the approval of his work visa at the United States consulate in Madrid.
The musician, who for now only maintains the dates of December 19 and 20, announced the decision on his website. Facebookmaking it clear that the procedures began a year ago and that it is the first time that it has faced this situation.
“I carry out this procedure every year and this is the first time something like this happens to me,” which he considers “very unfortunate.”
The tickets, he assured, were sold out months ago and “I know that this affects the times, plans and hopes of you and me.” However, he indicated, “my team, my musicians and I were ready and remain prepared to resume the tour, as soon as the visa is confirmed.”
The artist also recently announced a concert in New Jersey for November 21, although his message suggests that it will not be able to take place either.
At the end of 2024, the musician planned concerts in Tampa, Jacksonville and Miami, the first stage performances after the release of his album Nothing is like beforeavailable on all digital platforms since November of that same year.
In the middle of this year, Varela reconnected with his Galician roots through his new album, which he presented on June 21 at the Sala Capitol in Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia.
In a note sent to OnCuba the author of “One word” shared the enthusiasm for “returning to the land of my grandparents, the land of my last name, the land where I wrote ‘Monedas al aire’ 35 years ago.”
Recorded at Skyline studios in Madrid, Nothing is like before marks the ninth album of a career that has now spanned almost four decades. In this work, Varela delves into such universal themes as transformation, emigration, uprooting, loneliness, nostalgia and the indelible traces that existence leaves.
