Olimpia breaks more than 40 years of Barça streak in the Olla

Hoy Paraguay

Olimpia beat Cerro Porteño 0-2 with goals from Alejandro Silva and Derlis González. The Dean commanded a triumph and is nourished by confidence before measuring Fluminense. Cerro Porteño, strangely uncomfortable, lost undefeated.

Cerro Porteño and Olimpia today starred in the superclassic number 314 of the local record in a Nueva Olla filled to the brim.

More than 40 thousand souls supported Francisco ‘Chiqui’ Arce’s team, which arrived undefeated and with an ideal score. For its part, the fringed team was presented with a mix between starters and substitutes, taking into account the proximity of the cup rematch with the Brazilian Fluminense.

The local team started in obvious lethargy despite the noise of its people and Olimpia, who applied infernal pressure, managed to break the zero very early through a center by Iván Torres that Alejandro Silva connected in the mouth of the goal (8′), to the delirium of the Pettengill grandstand.

The fringed gave up part of the tenure when Rafael Carrascal began to handle the ball. The Colombian tried to order his men and Cerro Porteño -still uncomfortable under the pressure- made his football grow with a lot of touch and unloading down the wings.

Hugo Quintana wasted an unbeatable play to extend Olimpia’s lead at the end of the first stage, as well as Guillermo Paiva, with a header. Cerro also had his own, the best with Claudio Aquino (he made a mistake when he had the whole goal at his disposal).

And Chiqui doubled the offensive bet for the complementary. He sent Alan Benítez and turned the pitch towards the goal defended by Gastón Olveira from Uruguay.

Nerves took over the protagonists with the occasional tumult and it didn’t take long for Luis Zárate (Olimpia) and Claudio Aquino (Cerro) to see yellow cards, who joined Enzo Giménez (Cerro) and Fernando Cardozo (Olimpia).

An impatient Cyclone advanced its lines and bombarded the fringed area. But he was also exposed to the contras, such as one commanded by Néstor Camacho that almost ended with Alejandro Silva’s second.

Julio Cáceres refreshed his team with the presence of Derlis González, Sergio Otálvaro and Richard Ortíz. Gastón Olveira turned into a wall and, when it seemed that the game was going with the minimum, a pass from Cardozo found an inspired Derlis González who settled the fight (90′).

Cerro resigned himself and Olimpia reaped its first win on the Barça stage in more than 40 years.
