According to the official statement, the incident occurred around 1:25 in the afternoon, when the Paraíso and Isabela electrical substations, responsible for feeding Lines 1 and 2 of the Metro and Line 1 of the Cable Car, were out of operation due to an outage of the National Interconnected Electrical System (SENI).

The interruption caused immediate suspension of service in both mass transportation systems. However, OPRET assured that, thanks to the activation of your Emergency Protocolthe Metro and Cable Car users were evacuated safely and without incident.
