The Foreign Minister of Venezuela, Yván Gil, on behalf of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, expressed gratitude to the Russian State Duma for its call to the international community, parliaments and the UN system to condemn the increase in the United States military presence in the Caribbean Sea.
Through his Telegram channel, he indicated that the statement highlights the threats directed by the Trump Administration against Venezuela and the attacks on boats where more than 70 people have died, which have been classified as extrajudicial executions by experts from the United Nations (UN).
“Venezuela deeply values Russia’s firm solidarity in the defense of our sovereignty,” indicated the Minister for Foreign Affairs in his post.
In this sense, Russia asks that an escalation of the explosive situation that keeps both nations under tension be avoided.
The chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, specified: “we address our colleagues from different countries with a single message: let us try, for our part, to make the world a fairer place.”
In the appeal, the deputies “express their firm support and solidarity with the Venezuelan leadership in the defense of national sovereignty and underline the importance of its stable and independent development.”
The Russian State Duma called on the world’s parliaments to repudiate the increase in the United States military presence off the coast of Venezuela.
As reported by the legislative body in a draft declaration presented by the International Affairs Committee of the Russian Parliament, “the State Duma calls on the parliaments of all countries, international parliamentary organizations and the international community to condemn the military presence of the United States in the southern Caribbean Sea, near Venezuela.”
In a statement, the Russian deputies urge the United States to refrain from escalation and contribute to the search for solutions to the problem of cross-border crime and drug trafficking through dialogue and cooperation between nations, and to honestly comply with international agreements.
The international community, Russian legislators emphasize, must immediately condemn the threats of the use of force against Venezuela and advocate for maintaining Latin America and the Caribbean as an area of peace, stability and cooperation.
