For the Catholic Church, the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice must include human and spiritual values, including respect for life, dignity, education and decent work. It must also promote the values of young people and family unity.
In relation to the strategy announced after the assassination of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate (CEM) proposed to the federal government that peace is not built only with material strategies, but with human and spiritual values.
He pointed out that it is urgent to “respond to the anger, the feeling of orphanhood and the suffering of the people,” as well as guarantee security and the rule of law, address the root causes of violence, and promote authentic leadership that serves the common good.
The bishops offered to join any initiative that promotes the values of young people, family unity and respect for human dignity.
