The UN rapporteur on the negative repercussions of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, Alena Douhan, will visit Cuba from November 11 to 21 to analyze the effects of sanctions such as the embargo imposed by the United States on the island for six decades.
Douhan will meet with government officials, representatives of international organizations, members of the diplomatic community, as well as associations, financial institutions, the business sector, academia and other non-governmental actors, a United Nations statement indicated.

The Belarusian jurist “will evaluate various sectors affected by unilateral sanctions” and “analyze good practices, as well as mitigation and adaptation initiatives and policies,” highlighted the official note, which the agency cites. EFE.
Douhan will hold a press conference on the final day of his visit to share preliminary observations, although he will present his final report in September 2026 to the UN Human Rights Council.
The United Nations rapporteur has previously criticized the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States on countries such as Cuba, Venezuela or Iran before that same Council. In 2023, Douhan visited the island and met with Miguel Díaz-Canel.
