The Attorney General, Yeni Berenice Reynosoannounced the creation of the Analysis Unit of the Criminality and Management that takes advantage of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies, upon receiving a team of technicians from the University and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Chile.
Reynoso and his team held work meetings with the delegation, made up of Richard Weberexpert in data mining, optimization and soft computing from the University of Chile.
Also at the meeting were Valentina Reyes and Rodrigo Nanjariof the Public Ministry of that South American nation.
The deputy attorneys participated in the meetings Wilson Camacho and Osvaldo Bonilla Hiraldoresponsible for the General Directorate of Persecution of the Public Ministry and the Directorate of International Legal Cooperation, Extraditions and Human Rights.
Will strengthen data compilation
The attorney general recalled that, as part of her management commitments, she seeks to strengthen the capabilities of the Public Ministry in compiling available data and optimizing its analysis to prevent crime and strengthen citizen security.
The group of experts is part of the Assistance Program against Transnational Organized Crime (El PAcCTO), financed by the European Union which aims to technically assist Latin American countries in strengthening the rule of law and citizen security.
The work teams addressed issues related to the creation of the Criminal Analysis Unit (UAC), its goalsstaff and resources. In addition, they learned about the strategic, technical and human situation of the Public Ministryas well as the needs and expectations regarding new technologies and the work schedule they will develop.
According to a press release from the Attorney General’s Office, the technicians prepare a diagnostic report and of recommendations on the real functions of the UAC, perspectives of evolution, profiles of the team that makes up that body, functions, structure and mode of work, as well as the resources that would be necessary.
This stage will include a time calendar development, first steps, technology to buytraining and specialization of personnel, in addition to defining internal needs. Any element that the expert team considers relevant and necessary will also be included.
He criminal analysis Taking advantage of new technologies and artificial intelligence, the objective is to evaluate the advances and needs of the Criminal Analysis Unit. In addition, establish work perspectives and personnel needs, as well as the profiles of the team of prosecutors and technicians.

The agenda also includes the exchange of first impressions from the field about the Criminal Analysis Unit and the development of technological tools appropriate for the local context.
The group also participates in a meeting at the National School of Higher Education Institute Public Ministry (IES-ENMP), with the purpose of knowing the specialization and personnel training curriculum and the analysis of the possibility of developing technical specialization in the development and maintenance of AI systems.
