Eastern Antioquia is shaken by a new act of violence. Luis Fernando Ocampo Arias, 38 years old, popularly known as ‘Gurrumina’ or ‘Gurre’, was murdered in the rural area of the municipality of Nariño.

Ocampo Arias was a former town councilor (period 2020-2023) and owner of a ladder-type vehicle. The crime took place on the sidewalk Puente Linda, about 45 minutes from the town center. According to an official report, the victim was detained by armed men and executed on the side of the road.
Attack details
A citizen who identified himself as the driver of the victim’s ladder vehicle, and who was traveling on the road that leads from the Puente Linda village to the township Puerto Venus, reported the event to the police station.
The driver stated that, at the entrance to San Isidro, over the San Pedro River bridge, the vehicle was intercepted by three subjects hooded men traveling on two motorcycles.
The attackers stopped the vehicle, forced former councilor Ocampo to get out and allowed the driver to drive away. Meters ahead, shots were heard. The victim was a recognized figure in Nariño for his active participation in political and social processes and for the leadership that he exercised during his time on the Municipal Council.
This homicide adds to a growing wave of violence in the subregion, increasing the population’s anxiety due to the presence and intimidation of illegal armed groups.

The murder of the former councilor; is part of a violent period of less than 24 hours in Eastern Antioquia, where four people have been reported murdered, including a youth leader in El Carmen de Viboral.
