The president’s government José Jerí is complicit in the harmful possibility of the Reinfo being expanded again, according to the congresswoman Diana Gonzalesvice president of the Congressional Energy and Mines Commission.
He said that the Executive, through the Minister of Energy and Mines, Luis Enrique Bravo, has not commented on the matter, despite the fact that the working group has been evaluating the possibility that the questioned registration of mining formalization, which has served as a patent of marque for illegals and informals, covered by the mantle of the formalization process, to commit serious crimes in mining concessions, will continue in force until December 2027.
“I believe that the Executive is complicit in this with its silence. I have never listened to the Minister of Energy and Mines, the current minister, he has never expressed himself. I think it is also important to listen to him in the commission, because ultimately it is the ministry that has the competence,” he declared in RPP.
Gonzales, a member of the Avanza País bench, added that he has requested meetings with several ministers, as well as the presence of the head of Energy and Mines in the respective commission of Parliament because “it is important that they speak out.”
The legislator even indicated that the Somos Perú bench, to which Jerí himself belongs, is interested in expanding Reinfo.
AMBIGUOUS POSITION
On November 4, President Jerí briefly referred to the expansion of Reinfo at the end of his participation in the CADE Executives 2025 business convention.
“The Government is determining this (the opinion on the expansion) through the sector,” he responded briefly, emphasizing that it will be the Energy and Mines portfolio that will give a position.
Minutes earlier, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Denisse Miralles, explained that the Government had the intention of “listening to both parties”, in reference to the demands of the miners, who demand to extend the validity of the formalization registry.
“You cannot go back on measures that have already had an evaluation. However, the direction that has been given is to listen to the sector that is asking for expansion and see what gradual solution can be given. It does not necessarily involve an expansion of Reinfo. We do not want to generate that expectation that expansion is being evaluated. That is not under discussion,” he stated.
On October 23, Prime Minister Ernesto Álvarez maintained that the Government had not yet taken a position on the expansion of the Reinfo and that they would wait for the determination made by Congress to evaluate with experts what their statement should be. That time he mentioned that, if opposed, the Government could observe the law or present a constitutional claim before the Constitutional Court (TC).
PLEASE NOTE
- New session. The Energy and Mines Commission suspended the debate on the expansion of Reinfo until November 17, after Congressman Roberto Sánchez proposed an interim period to review other proposals and present a replacement text.
