After a midweek round with a positive result for Palmeiras, the weekend round of the Brazilian Championship reversed the situation and was largely beneficial for Flamengo. Leader and vice-leader of the competition entered the field in the final part of the 33rd round, this Sunday (9), and the results favored Rubro-Negro. The team received and defeated Santos 3-2, at Maracanã, while Verdão visited Mirassol and ended up defeated 2-1. With this, both teams have 68 points in 32 games (they are one game late each), with the São Paulo team ahead due to having one more victory (21 against 20). There are six matches left for each of the teams, who will still face each other in the Libertadores final, on the 29th.
In Rio, Flamengo opened 3-0 with goals from Léo Pereira, Carrascal and Bruno Henrique. Arrascaeta also missed a penalty. In the final minutes, after Neymar – who returned after a long absence – was substituted and complained about coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda, Peixe scored with goals from Gabriel Bontempo and Lautaro Díaz. However, the final attack did not prevent the defeat, which kept Santos in the relegation zone, with 33 points, in 17th place.
In the interior of São Paulo, the sensation of the championship, Mirassol, opened the scoring after just 2 minutes, with Gabriel. Vitor Roque equalized for Palmeiras with a bicycle goal. In stoppage time of the first half, the home team scored after João Victor headed a throw-in from the left. With the confirmation of the victory, Mirassol remains undefeated as home team in the Brasileirão. There are 11 wins and six draws in 17 games. The team remains in the G-4, in fourth place, with 59 points.
The other match that closed the round was between Fortaleza and Grêmio, at Castelão, in the capital of Ceará. The teams tied 2-2. The highlight was the first goal for the Rio Grande do Sul tricolor, when Carlos Vinícius hid behind goalkeeper Brenno and stole the ball after the opponent dropped it on the ground. Grêmio’s other goal was scored by Marlon, while Bareiro and Matheus Pereira scored for Leão Ceará. Fortaleza is in 19th place, with 30 points, while Grêmio has 40, in 14th.
