The ANI delivered a locomotive to Valle del Cauca to launch a tourist train that will link Palmira and Buga from 2026.
The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) delivered in free loan to the Government of Valle del Cauca a locomotive type U10B, with which the project called the Valle del Cauca Tourist Train will be launched.
This plan contemplates the operation of the service between Palmira and Buga, once the adaptations in the railway corridor are completed. It is estimated that the railway section between both municipalities will enter operation in the second half of 2026.
The project is developed through collaboration between the Nation and the Government, with the objective of reactivating part of the department’s railway network and enabling a transportation service. transportation for tourist purposes.

The bailment agreement was symbolically signed in Palmira this November 9, 2025. This act formalized the delivery of the locomotive, which will be used in the initial operations of the route.
The measure is part of the commitments established between the ANI and the Government of Valle del Cauca within the railway reactivation plan that is being carried out in different regions of the country. According to ANI, The project seeks to take advantage of the existing infrastructure to facilitate the return of the passenger train to the department.
The entity highlighted that Valle del Cauca has a railway network with the potential to be used for logistics and tourism purposes, which would allow expanding transportation and connectivity alternatives in the region.
The plan is part of national actions aimed at strengthening the rail mode. Currently, the ANI manages three railway corridors in operation: Bogotá–Belencito, La Dorada–Chiriguaná and Chiriguaná–Santa Marta. Together, these corridors moved more than 23 million tons of cargo and 446,000 passengers in 2025.
With the delivery of the locomotive and the progress in the adaptation works, Valle del Cauca joins the departments where railway recovery projects are being carried out. The initiative aims to enable a service that contributes to boosting regional mobility and generate new transportation and recreation options for residents and visitors.

The ANI reported that it will continue to provide technical and logistical support to the Government of Valle del Cauca to complete the necessary stages of the project and allow the entry into operation of the Valle del Cauca Tourist Train on schedule.
