El campeón lo hace otra vez: Mauricio Báez avanza a su novena final seguida de basket distrital

The representation of Villa Juana goes to the ninth final in a row and will seek to break the tie with San Carlos with titles each

The Mauricio Báez club took a historic step this Sunday night in its participation in the TBS Distrito, after defeating San Lázaro 84-73, to go to its ninth consecutive final series.

The match was played at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Mauricio will play the final series (7-4) of the TBS District 2025 against a very well-known rival with historical influences, since it shares with San Carlos the historical leadership of the most championships with 10 each, and where the winner would remain number one with 11 crowns and finals won.

Next Tuesday, at 8:00 p.m., the pitched battle begins to obtain the 11th title and historical glory in the superior district tournaments, dating back to 1974.

The Mauritians won the semifinal round B 3-1 against the Lazarians, which was agreed to the best of 5-3.

Those led by Melvyn López would seek their third crown in a row, 2023 and 2024, both under the command of López himself, who would also achieve his eighth lifetime championship in the TBS District.

The best scorers for Mauricio were “The Beast of Jaya” Luismal Ferreiras with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds, Gerardo Suero scored 17 points and his younger brother Juan Miguel Suero 15 plus five assists, and Richard Bautista scored 10 figures, captured eight rebounds and distributed 12 balls.

For San Lázaro, Ángel Nuñez completed double figures of 15 points and 12 rebounds, Edgar Tejeda 15 points with six assists, Yeickson Montero had 13 and Victor Liz scored 10.

SC nine out of a final
After a nine-year absence in a final series, the “Cinco Esquinas” squad returns to the dispute for the TBS District title, where it lost in 2016 by a 4-0 sweep of the Mauricio Báez club, which returned to the district tournament after an absence of 13 years, and precisely against the same opponent from 2003, where the San Carlos club was crowned, at the Professor Virgilio Sports Palace Naughty Soto.

The green-yellows have gone 22 years without tasting a championship title again.

This Sunday, in the early game they beat the Rafael Barias club 96-65 and dominated the semi-final series A 3-1.

The TBS District 2025 is organized by the National District Basketball Association (Abadina), chaired by Colonel (PN) Diego Pesqueira, and the Organizing Committee is headed by José Ignacio Paliza, Minister of the Presidency.

This year’s contest is dedicated to the Immortal of Dominican Sports Evaristo Pérez, former member of the national basketball team and former player of the San Carlos squad.

The TBS District 2025 Organizing Committee announced the ticket prices for the Grand Final, agreed at 7-4.

For the VIP Zone it will cost RD$2,750.00 pesos and general admission will cost RD$500.00 pesos.
