Jerí on complementary measures to the state of emergency: 'they give us more tools to act forcefully'

The President of the Republic, José Jerí Oréattended the formal ceremony for the 81st anniversary of the Lima Police Region, which took place at the Mounted Police headquarters of El Potao, in the Rímac district.

Accompanied by the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburcio, the general commander of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), General Óscar Arriola, and the head of the Lima Central Police Region, General Enrique Felipe Monroy, the head of State received honors corresponding to his investiture as supreme commander of the Armed Forces and the Police.

The president supported the Foreign Ministry’s position and ruled out that the former prime minister could leave the country as long as safe passage is not authorized.

In his speech, Jerí highlighted the work of the Lima Police Region and recalled that it has approximately 22,000 troops deployed, pointing out that more than half of the criminal acts in the country are concentrated in the capital, so this anniversary reinforces the commitment to citizen security.

The ceremony not only commemorated the creation and history of the institution, but also served as a setting for the president to reaffirm his support for the emergency operation in force in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, highlighting that the new measures adopted provide law enforcement with greater tools to confront organized crime.

“The measures that we approved yesterday, after a deep analysis, reflection and based on the principle of reality, give us more tools, guidelines, guides to act in an organized and more forceful way against crime,” he stated.

Jerí also asked the police officers, the Armed Forces, the security personnel and the local mayors to assume an “additional commitment” in this joint task that, he said, will allow us to win the “war against crime.”
