Venezuela celebrates UN statement rejecting attacks in the Caribbean

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, on behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, welcomed the recent position of organizations of the United Nations system that condemn the United States military attacks against vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific, describing them as serious violations of international law and human rights.

The Venezuelan statement highlights that these acts constitute unjustified aggressions that threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Venezuela, as well as the stability of a region recognized as a Zone of Peace by multilateral consensus. The Venezuelan Government reiterated its call to the UN and multilateral organizations to activate their collective protection mechanisms to safeguard regional peace and the sovereignty of the people.

Attacks under the Trump administration

Since October, US President Donald Trump’s administration has intensified military operations in Caribbean and Pacific waters, claiming to combat drug trafficking. However, no documented evidence has been presented to justify the bombing of civilian vessels, many of which posed no imminent threat, according to UN experts.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, described these attacks as “unacceptable” and warned that they could constitute international crimes. UN Secretary General António Guterres supported this position, stressing that the use of lethal force is not justified under the norms of international law.

Venezuela demands multilateral action

Faced with this situation, the Venezuelan Government urged the international community not to remain indifferent to the escalation of aggression. “The threat persists, and that is why we maintain the call to the entire United Nations system and multilateral organizations to use their mechanisms to defend the peace and sovereignty of all nations,” said the Foreign Ministry.

Venezuela reaffirms its commitment to the defense of international law, regional peace and the dignity of peoples, and warns that the impunity of these actions puts the multilateral order and global stability at risk.
