The government’s plan to bring peace to Michoacán has as its axes reinforcing the presence of federal forces in the entity, raising public investment to unprecedented levels to reactivate employment and strengthen social programs, according to information obtained by The Day about the set of actions that will be announced this Sunday by President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace.

Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla announced that this week the Secretaries of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, and the National Defense, General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, will be in the entity.

“With them we will strengthen the national security strategy to consolidate the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, announced by President Sheinbaum,” he said.

According to the information obtained by this newspaper, in addition to the increase in elements of the federal forces – which for days have reinforced security in Uruapan, after the murder of Mayor Carlos Manzo –, the federal government will apply an extraordinary investment in the state, to also support education and scholarships for children and young people, as well as cultural and sports programs, among others, with the aim of addressing the causes of violence.

The Michoacan president and members of President Sheinbaum’s cabinet will attend the event in the Central Courtyard of the National Palace – at 1:00 p.m. – with whom he has held meetings throughout the week to finalize the plan.

The president announced this week a joint action by her entire cabinet to listen to specific communities and sectors, in order to define the content of the plan, strengthen security and combat crimes such as extortion.

A first step, he declared, is the inclusion of three axes: security and justice; economic development with justice, and education and culture for peace. With this approach, his government’s conviction is that “security is not sustained by wars, but by justice, development and respect for life. Peace is not imposed by force,” he stressed this week.

The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, together with Governor Ramírez Bedolla, led consultations with all sectors of the entity to define actions and enrich the plan. Among them, businessmen, civil society groups, bishops of the Catholic Church and leaders of the evangelical, Mormon and Muslim churches, as well as municipal presidents.

Yesterday, they reported a meeting with about 40 self-governing indigenous communities. Rodríguez pointed out that representatives of the Purépecha, Otomí, Náhuatl, Mazahua and Pirinda peoples participated.
