The second of three national holidays in November 2025 will be this week. And, just like All Souls’ Day, Republic Day will take place on a weekend (Saturday, November 15).
The date, which marks the promulgation of the country’s “Decree 1”, recalls the date of 1889 when Brazil ceased to be a monarchy and became the “United States of Brazil” (a nomenclature that changed to the Federative Republic of Brazil in 1967). This matter of Brazil Agency shows that historians consider the pro-republic movement to be elitist. The context of the episode was also explained by Reporter Brazil in 2014 and 2020:
Before, November 11th is a historic day for another Portuguese-speaking country. This year marks exactly 50 years of Angola’s Independence. It was on this day that Agostinho Neto assumed the role of president of the country after armed struggles and political agreements with Portugal.
In 2015, the Reporting Paths told a little about the history of the country’s independence (and other African countries at the time). Details about Agostinho Neto and Angola were covered in publications on the TV Brasil linked to the program New Africa and the Angolan soap opera Windeck.
Other awareness dates
In addition to civic dates, the week also has a huge range of very diverse dates. On November 12th, Pantanal Day is celebrated, a biome considered one of the richest on the planet, whose preservation is vital for biodiversity and climate balance. THE National Radio Agency spoke about the date in 2017. The series Our Biomesfrom the TV Brasil, took a tour of the Pantanal in 2022.
On the same day, the world also remembers Hip Hop Day, established in memory of the creation of the Zulu Nation in the Bronx, in 1973. The movement, born on the outskirts of New York, was remembered in an interview with Brazil Agency with MV Bill in 2023. Reporter Brazil He has also already written an article about the date, in 2020.
November 13th is marked by a symbolic date: World Kindness Day. The date, which serves as a reflection on how small gestures can generate profound transformations in collective daily life, is a tribute to the creation of the World Kindness Movement in 1996 in Japan. In Brazil, the date is always linked to the figure of the poet José Daltrino (better known as Gentileza). THE National Radio Agency and the TV Brasil They’ve already talked about his career:
Health, education and religion
In the field of health and education, November 14th carries two important marks. THE National Radio Agency, the Brazil Agency and the TV Brasil They have already made special content about the date.
On the same day, National Literacy Day is celebrated, a time to highlight the importance of reading and writing as tools of citizenship and inclusion. In 2016, the Reporter Brazil, from the TV Brasilspoke about the date:
To close the week, we “return” to November 15th. On the same day as the Proclamation of the Republic holiday, National Umbanda Day is celebrated. The anniversary was established in memory of the date of the first manifestation of the “Caboclo das Sete Encruzilhadas”, which was incorporated on November 15, 1908 by the then young Brazilian medium, Zélio Fernandino de Moraes.
