The process includes applications to the Senate and the House of Representativesin addition to the elections corresponding to the 16 Special Transitional Peace Districts (CITREP). Registration can be done virtually through the website of the National Registry, or in person at the headquarters of the District Registry. departmental delegations and, abroad, in embassies and consulates.

Candidates for the Senate and the House of Representatives may be presented by parties, political movements, significant groups of citizens, social movements, coalitions, blank vote promoters and indigenous and Afro-descendant organizations, recognized by the Ministry of the Interior.
To aspire to the Senate, you must be Colombian by birth, a practicing citizen and be over 30 years old at the time of the election; for the Chamber, you must be a practicing citizen and be over 25 years old.
In the case of the Special Transitional Peace Circumscriptions (CITREP), applications can be made by victims’, peasant, social or women’s organizations, as well as by community councils, reservations, indigenous authorities and the Roma people.
Applicants must meet the general requirements of the Chamber and, in addition, prove their territorial ties and their status as victims, certified by the Unit for Comprehensive Attention and Reparation to Victims (UARIV).
The National Registry enabled a web platform for the registration of candidatureswhere the procedures can be carried out depending on the type of corporation and district. For the 2026 elections, the entity also established a new system for accepting candidatures through a unique security code, which will be sent to the email or WhatsApp number of the applicants.
With this mechanism, candidates will be able to accept their application in a direct, agile and secure manner. The national registrar of Civil Status, Hernán Penagos, highlighted that this is the first time that this type of electronic validation has been implemented, with the aim of offering greater guarantees and technological tools to both voters and candidates.
The Registry also held training sessions aimed at political organizations, consulates, departmental delegations and electoral coordinators, to provide guidance on the use of the platform, the requirements, the required documentation and the modalities for accepting the candidatures.

With the opening of the registration period, the electoral calendar for the 2026 legislative elections formally begins, in which Colombians will elect their representatives in the Congress and the spokespersons for the territories that make up the peace constituencies.
