The Minister of Defense highlighted the quick action of the authorities, who prevented the car bomb from being activated in the residential area.
The Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez, referred to the vehicle loaded with explosives abandoned this Saturday morning in the Curubal neighborhood of Tunja (Boyacá), near the Simón Bolívar Battalion. The minister highlighted the quick action of the authorities, who prevented the car bomb from being activated in a residential area.
“Our Public Force, hand in hand with information from the community, avoided fatalities in the terrorist attack that a drug trafficking cartel tried to execute the Infantry Battalion No. 1 Simón Bolívar, in Tunja,” said the minister.
Sánchez reported that anti-explosive experts continue the work to deactivate in a controlled manner all the charges installed on the dump truck.

“At this time, our specialized teams are advancing the deactivation of explosive charges that are still in the dump truck used by the terrorists.
“We encourage citizens to remain calm, respect the security perimeter and report any suspicious activity that may put the population at risk,” he added.
Reward for information from those responsible
The minister also announced a million-dollar reward for anyone who provides information that allows the identification and capture of those responsible for abandoning the car bomb. “We offer a reward of up to $200 million for information that will prevent any terrorist attack throughout the country. Likewise, up to $100 million for information that allows the identification and capture of those responsible for these actions,” Sánchez clarified.

Extraordinary security meeting in Boyacá
The head of the Defense portfolio confirmed, as anticipated by LA FM, that the military leadership is heading towards Tunja, where an extraordinary security meeting will take place.
“An Extraordinary Security Meeting will be held in Tunja, Boyacá, led by the commander of the Military Forces, Admiral Francisco Cubides, together with the military and Police leadership, in coordination with the governor of Boyacá, Carlos Amaya, and local authorities, with whom I have maintained communication to guarantee the safety of the people of Boyacá,” said Sánchez.
The minister also ordered extraordinary regional security meetings throughout the country to update intelligence information and prevent new terrorist attacks.
“At this time, unity, action and determination are required to neutralize any terrorist threat. We will not take a single step back. The attack hurts, but it does not break our will. The heart of Boyacá beats stronger than fear,” concluded the minister.
