Generation Z march in CDMX against violence in the country

They began the demonstration shortly after noon with flags of the so-called One Piece movement. It is the pirate flag from a manga and anime that has been used by young people protesting in other countries, mainly in Nepal.

The members of Generation Z also showed banners with phrases written on them such as: “Rebellion is life and submission is death” and “Carlos Manzo was born to be a hero, he died to be history.”

During the walk along the Paseo de la Reforma, the protesters shouted slogans against the violence suffered in various entities of the country and remembered the mayor of Uruapan, Michoacán, Carlos Manzo, who was attacked by gunfire on Saturday, November 1 during the inauguration of the Day of the Dead celebrations. They also remembered the lemon leader Bernardo Bravo, murdered days ago.

The protesters also questioned the security strategy implemented by President Claudia Sheinbaum, as they assured that the peace talks and the policy of “hugs, not bullets” have not worked, although that strategy was from her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Some of the speakers expressed the proposal that generation Z, young people and social organizations participate in the mandate revocation exercise.

“We want to change a system that has been violent with the people, we do not want a simple revocation of the mandate that is not going to solve anything. We are not fachos,” was heard on the megaphone.

The protesters also spoke out against the Morena party and said they supported other movements and struggles, such as the disappearance of the Ayotzinapa normalista students, and were against the genocide in the Gaza Strip.

The march proceeded normally until a group of elements from the Secretariat of Citizen Security stood in front of the Palace of Fine Arts to prevent the demonstration from advancing towards the Zócalo. This ignited spirits among the attendees and that was why the members of Generation Z decided to return to the Chamber in Juárez, where various positions were expressed.

A march against insecurity was also called by Generation Z for next Saturday, November 15 throughout the country.
