They destroy more than eight thousand firearms and tons of fireworks seized in several regions

The Peruvian authorities destroyed more than 8,200 firearms and 8.7 tons of illegal pyrotechnics seized in various operations nationwide, reported the National Superintendency of Control of Security Services, Weapons, Ammunition and Explosives for Civil Use (Sucamec).

The measure seeks to prevent its re-entry into the market and prevent its use for criminal purposesin compliance with current regulations.

In total, 8,291 weapons that had been confiscated by the Police, the Judiciary or voluntarily surrendered were eliminated by individuals who did not comply with the legal conditions of possession. The destruction process was supervised by the British organization Mines Advisory Group (MAG) International, with technical and financial support from the United States Department of State, guaranteeing international standards of transparency and traceability.

The head of Sucamec, Rafael Ríos, highlighted that this action represents a firm step by the State against the misuse of weapons and illegal trade, emphasizing that the goal is to reduce risks, protect lives and promote a culture of peace. The largest number of weapons seized came from Lima, with more than 5,700 units, followed by the regions of La Libertad, Piura and Áncash.

As for the pyrotechnics, these were seized in joint operations with the National Police of Peru and Sunat, mainly in Lima and Callao. The destruction was carried out through controlled incineration at the Army Ammunition Center in Pisco, under the supervision of MAG International and with the logistical support of the Peruvian Army.

Sucamec specified that, with this latest operation, more than 21 tons of illegal fireworks have been destroyed so far in 2025, contributing to preventing fires, serious injuries and human losses, since many of these materials were stored or marketed without minimum safety conditions.
