Julio Cáceres, tactically perfect

Hoy Paraguay

The Olimpia of Julio César Cáceres scored today the first victory of the fringed in the Olla in more than 40 years, the first since the reopening. The tactical proposal of the young strategist managed to annul the experienced Francisco ‘Chiqui’ Arce.

Olimpia took it in stride and applied hellish pressure, at the rate of her coach.

And it seems so simple…

The ‘Emperor’ team annulled the Barça initiative with a game that was more intelligent than abrupt, serene and precise. He filled the spaces, did not allow himself to be surprised by the backs and covered every passageway left by the wings when attacking.

The first goal of the match, that of Alejandro Silva, was but the visible symptom of this paradigm. The wingers took care of bothering the Colombian Rafael Carrascal, thus cutting the circuit in the cerrista midfield that, otherwise, would have nurtured the powerful contras on the wings.

Well off, Olimpia generated enough chances to widen their lead, although they also had their share of luck, mainly due to the balls they lost between Marcelo Moreno Martins, Robert Morales and Claudio Aquino.

The experience of Iván Torres and Saúl Salcedo served to guide the youngest in the field, until the entry of Richard Ortíz, who laid the foundations to cool down the game.

Chiqui thought he could free his wingers from the pressure and redoubled his offensive presence with the entry of Alan Benítez, but it didn’t work out for him. Neither with Sergio Díaz and Alfio Oviedo, contained by the attentive defenders.

Cáceres was also right with the changes. The arrivals of Sergio Otálvaro, Derlis González and Richard Ortíz strengthened the different lines at a time when Cerro Porteño tilted the field in the direction of Gastón Olveira’s goal, but the Charrúa did not let even the wind pass.

Special mention for the ant work carried out by Guillermo Paiva. He went to the expense of attracting the aggressive mark of the defenders to clear the way for a Néstor Camacho who was precise when it came to enabling his teammates. A round and effective bet.

Interesting about Cáceres who, at least on this occasion, showed that he can take advantage of adverse situations.
