Santo Domingo.-The sentences to be imposed on the Espaillat brothers would not exceed two years in prison, if they are found guilty of the collapse of the roof of the nightclub Jet Set Clubwhich left 236 people dead and more than 100 injured, on April 8, 2025, seven months ago.
In the accusation and request to open a trial presented before the Investigative Courts of the National District, the Public Ministry accuses the brothers Antonio and Maribel Espaillat of involuntary manslaughter, contemplated in articles 319 and 320 of the Dominican Penal Code, which establish penalties for this type of act of three months to two years in prison.
Article 319 of the aforementioned code verbatim expresses the following: “Whoever, due to clumsiness, recklessness, inadvertence, negligence or non-observance of the regulations, commits involuntary homicide, or is an involuntary cause of it, will be punished with correctional imprisonment of three months to two years, and a fine of twenty-five to one hundred pesos.”

Meanwhile, article 320 of the aforementioned code says: “If the recklessness or lack of caution has only caused blows or injuries, the prison will be from six days to two months, and the fine will be from ten to fifty pesos, or one of these two penalties only.”
In the instance, filed with the Coordinating Office of the Investigative Courts of the National District, the Public Ministry is represented by Deputy Attorney General Wilson Camacho, head of the General Directorate of Prosecution of the Public Ministry; the titular prosecutor of the National District, Rosalba Ramos.
Also, by the court attorney Héctor García, the prosecutors Magalys Sánchez, Miguel Collado and Rosa Ysabel Mejía, and the inspectors Vladimir Viloria and Enmanuel Ramírez Sánchez.
The Public Ministry establishes that, in their actions, as those responsible for the operation of the entertainment Jet Set that operated on Independencia Avenue, in the National District, the Espaillat brothers incurred involuntary manslaughter and involuntary beatings and wounds, crimes punished in articles 319 and 320 of the Dominican Penal Code, which establish the aforementioned penalties and mules.
The investigation was carried out based on a particular instruction issued by the Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso.
