“Previously, the presidents had a Presidential General Staff, they were cared for by 8,000 elite soldiers. Now we have 10 colleagues who go with us from the Presidential Assistant,” he highlighted.
“All of the General Staff returned to the Army to take care of the people and the people’s resources are returned to the people,” he assured.
The debate about the president’s security includes those who consider that she is exposed by having a small and unprepared protection body. But other voices explain that the sexual harassment of which she was a victim is not solved only with more bodyguards. That is to say, women should never be attacked in any situation.
The president says that, above all, she does not return to those mechanisms because they were expensive and she governs under the principle that “there can be no rich government with poor people.”
“We do not go around with paraphernalia, we do not come to government to serve ourselves. We have a mandate and that is to serve the people. We are public servants and what public servant means is to serve the people of Mexico,” he declared at an event in Nayarit.
Highway inaugurated
Sheinbaum went to the municipality of Xalisco to inaugurate the Tepic-Compostela highway, which will reduce travel time by 35 minutes less.
It consists of an extension of 26 kilometers, with 10 bridges, two junctions and a tunnel. It had an investment of 4,212 million pesos and, according to federal government data, it generated 2,900 direct and indirect jobs.
Sheinbaum also announced an expansion of the highway to Las Varas-Platanitos and San Blas to preserve sources of employment and improve connectivity in the region.
