The America’s Cup baseball It was shipwrecked before its start. The event, which was to begin on November 13 in Panama, will no longer take place. At least, not on the scheduled date.
The news was confirmed by the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation (FCBS), after other federations and media announced the suspension of the Cup due to logistical problems derived from non-compliance by the promoting company.
In one published note by the sports site Hitthe island’s baseball entity reported having been notified of the cancellation by the mainland baseball authorities, without delving into the reasons, and regretted that this happened at the gates of the tournament.
“We regret that, just days before the event, which should have started on November 13 in Panama, competitive aspirations supported by economic outlays and other logistical efforts are frustrated,” the FCBS wrote on its social networks.

The organization assured that it had already had to “readjust” its efforts with a view to the event when it was decided that group A, in which Cuba would compete, would no longer be played in Venezuela.
Furthermore, he considered that with the suspension of the Cup “the possibility of the continent experiencing an important tournament is eliminated” and he thanked “the willingness of the athletes and coaches summoned, as well as the support received for the formation and integration of our team.”
Frustrated premiere… for now
The Copa América would mark the debut of Germán Mesa as manager of the Cuban team. However, the collapse of the tournament frustrates for now the debut of the “Mago” on the island’s bench.
The FCBS had announced days ago the roster of the Cuba team, which was to concentrate next week and whose integration had revived the controversy due to absences and controversial inclusions in the opinion of fans and experts.
In the last hours, before learning about the cancellation of the Cup, the baseball entity reported on two changes in the team for different reasons: Dennis Laza by Alfredo Despaigne and that of Yasiel González by Yoel Yanqui.
Such changes are now meaningless, as could the entire team if the event finally does not take place or its celebration moves to a distant date in time.
In this regard, the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) announced that the Cup will be rescheduled, although it has not yet specified when it could take place.
