Megatake against crime in Palmira leaves 58 captured and two tons of drugs seized

Authorities captured 58 people in Palmira during a large anti-crime operation that left several tons of drugs seized.

In a joint operation by the Army, Police and Prosecutor’s Office, 58 people were captured in Palmira. Weapons, drugs and cell phones used in extortion were seized.

In an intervention by the Public Force, The municipality of Palmira was the scene of a large coordinated operation between the National Army and the Police, which allowed the capture of 58 people and the execution of 25 search and seizure procedures in different sectors of the city.

According to the authorities, 37 of the arrests were made in flagrante delicto, while 21 were the result of court orders issued by different offices. During the operation, firearms, narcotics and elements used for counterfeiting currency were also seized, thus hitting criminal structures that affected security and public order in the region.

“During the operations The seizure of 7 firearms was achieveddirectly affecting the war capacity of criminal structures. The same way, 4 tons of marijuana were seized and 7 grams of coca base, evidencing a forceful blow to illicit income from local drug trafficking,” said General Sandra Liliana Rodríguez, commander of the Valle Police.

The deployment also reached the municipal jail where 141 cell phones used to coordinate illegal activities such as extortion and selective homicides were seized. In addition, 6 motorcycles and 2 vehicles reported stolen were recovered.

“In parallel, Through preventive control actions, 54,684 personal records and 20,545 vehicle records were verified.as well as 110 individualizations, which allowed us to strengthen the identification and surveillance of risk factors associated with crime,” the officer added.

The actions were the result of coordinated work between the different intelligence, investigation and patrol units, with the support of the National Army, the Valley Police and the Attorney General’s Office, in addition to the Mayor’s Office.

These types of interventions are part of a comprehensive security strategy aimed at reducing crime rates, combating micro-trafficking and strengthening citizen coexistence in Palmira,” said Víctor Ramos, mayor of Palmira.

Other operations

A blow was achieved to micro-trafficking near a kindergarten with the capture of alias Mecha or ‘Pomponio’accused of distributing drugs in the vicinity of the educational institution, exposing an approximate population of 500 boys and girls. In the area, 30 doses of marijuana, 100 doses of cocaine and money from the sale of these hallucinogenic substances were seized.

A man who was traveling along the Cencar – Airport road corridor was also captured with material to counterfeit $52 million pesos. This person was transporting 1,050 cuts of paper with characteristics to imitate $50,000 bills, currency in the process of being counterfeited.

In another action, the Unified Action Group for Personal Freedom (Gaula) and the Police Intelligence Section (SIPOL), captured alias Kevin or ‘FR’ and alias Rebelde, allegedly responsible for coordinating extortion, theft and selective homicides and who would be part of the criminal gang ‘The 300’.

They had more than 10 years of criminal history and used minors for illegal activities.

Finally, with the support of the Prosecutor’s Office, 6 raids and 9 arrests were carried out for crimes related to the illegal exploitation of natural resources and conspiracy to commit a crime, allowing the ‘Lustro’ criminal group to be dismantled.

This structure generated illicit income of more than $1.7 billion annually. and was indirectly related to the “Adan Izquierdo” structure of the FARC dissidents.

Those captured were placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office for their respective prosecution. and that the operations will continue in other municipalities of Valle del Cauca as part of the offensive plan against crime.
