Uruapan, Mich., Before thousands of people who demonstrated to demand justice for the murder of Mayor Carlos Manzo, his successor and widow, Grecia Quiroz, stated: “We are not going to let anyone come to trample on the people of Uruapan, we are not going to let anyone come to bloody the people of Uruapan. We are not going to allow it.”
During his speech, he stated that his visit to President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace “was not to bend his hands, it was to demand justice, to demand that she look at our municipality. That they remove all those criminals that exist, to demand that none of us have to live under extortion, that the merchant, the tortilla maker, the people who support us are no longer extorted.”
With Manzo’s hat held high, he stated that those who ordered him killed did not know that “this hat has an unstoppable, tireless force that in 2027 we are going to give him a vote of punishment, because we are going to make it count and we are going to honor his memory. Not one step back.”
He stated that to stop this movement, “they would have to come and kill each and every one of us.” She proposed that she be seen as an instrument of Manzo because she will follow his ideals to guarantee security in the city.
She asked for people’s authorization so that, unlike her husband and because of what happened to her, they authorized her to have a security team for her protection.
“I thank this people of Carlos Manzo (…), who walked the streets and always trusted him until the last day. There is hope for Uruapan, for Michoacán, for all those who have lost their loved one, who have been extorted, robbed, abused. This is a message of hope. Here, next to me, stands Carlos Manzo,” he said in a metaphorical tone.
