All commercial exchanges between Peru and Mexico will remain the same despite the -sudden and recent- breakdown of diplomatic relations between both administrations.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), Teresa Mera, to public opinion, explaining that this is because these negotiations take place between private companies.
“The export activity per se It is carried out by representatives of the private sector, exporters and importers; Therefore, these commercial relationships tend to be maintained,” she commented, quoted by RPP.
That is, the breakdown of diplomatic relations between Peru and Mexico They would be at a political level (brotherhood between countries) and would not have to affect sales or purchases between the two.
In this context, the Mincetur minister recalled that, in the past, the country has already had “some difficulties with other trade partners”; However, trade has always continued.
The expectation of this sector, vital for the development of the Nation, is that exports and imports of goods and services continue their normal flow, unrelated to the relationship between governments.
Mincetur expects a record export of 112%
The Ministry of Commerce and Tourism estimates that Peruvian exports to different partner countries will reach a record increase of 12% until December of this year, reaching $85 billion.
This is because – according to the latest measurement, which covers from January to September 2025 – foreign sales have already exceeded $62,864 million, 17.3% more than the same period in 2024.
This advance is explained both by the increase in exported volumes and by the increase in international prices in some items, such as minerals, where gold has reached record peaks.
