Government deployed social and security measures to address violence in educational centers
ANEP will reinforce the number of technicians in the Enjoyable Schools program and the Ministry of the Interior will increase the number of personnel participating in the Safe Educational Community program, the number of Pelota al Medio a la Esperanza activities will also increase and there will be greater participation by the Community Police. The objective is to eradicate violence in educational centers.
The president of the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP), Pablo Caggiani; the undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Gabriela Valverde; the deputy director of the National Police, Alfredo Clavijo; The director of Human Rights of ANEP, Nilia Viscardi, and representatives of the Uruguayan Federation of Teachers met last Friday the 7th, to analyze the inter-institutional response to acts of violence caused in school 123 in the Jardines del Hipódromo neighborhood, Montevideo.
Caggiani stated that this type of events is inadmissible in an educational center, so the meeting between the authorities aims to improve coexistence and the actions that are deployed in territories through social educational programs, he said.
“We are going to reinforce the conditions so that there is a guarantee that the gurises can go to schoolthat teachers can work calmly, and that families can trust that normal functioning is resumed,” he added.
The leader announced that the technical team that participates in the Enjoyable Schools program will work with teachers, families and students, to repair the damage caused. “The meeting improved what we had before entering and we left with better conditions so that work at the school can be resumed,” he stated.
