The topics that President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and her French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, will address in their meeting today include scientific, cultural and economic cooperation, as well as the renewal in 2026 of the trade agreement between Mexico and the European Union.
The agenda includes a reception ceremony and a private meeting between the two, the President explained yesterday in her press conference at the National Palace.
Sheinbaum explained that members of his cabinet and the Mexican ambassador to France, Blanca Jiménez, will participate in the meeting.
He highlighted that the meeting with Macron seeks to strengthen the bilateral relationship and explore new forms of collaboration on strategic issues. “We are going to talk about the economic relationship, the trade agreement that is renewed in 2026 with the European Union and how France will participate, essentially,” he said.
Recovery of pre-Hispanic codices
José Alfonso Suárez del Real, political advisor of the Social Communication Coordination of the Presidency, announced that one of the relevant topics will be the exchange and restitution of pre-Hispanic codices, within the framework of the activities for the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between Mexico and France.
He said that the Azcatitlan codex could be returned to Mexico, while the Bourbon codex, protected by the French National Assembly, will follow a legislative process that depends on the initiative on the restitution of cultural heritage.
