A fire in a mattress factory in Barrios Unidos left homes destroyed and families affected.
Behind him large fire which was recorded in the last hours in the town of Barrios Unidos, The damage to neighboring buildings was serious. Omar Castro, owner of a home next to the company where the emergency began, spoke about the damage.
The authorities attended to the emergency for several hours, managing to control the flames after 1:00 am on Thursday. The fire originated in a mattress factory located on Calle 76 and Carrera 53.

Intense flames and a series of explosions alerted residents and merchantswho quickly evacuated their homes due to fear that the conflagration would spread. One of them was Omar Castro, owner of a home next to the company where the emergency began.
“My wife started to prepare some food and I was watching the news when a strong smell began to be perceived.like a chemical. When we looked out the window we saw smoke from the house next door. We went down immediately with the pet and, in a matter of seconds, the explosions began,” he said.
The fire affected their entire home, especially the fourth floor, which had recently been remodeled. “Practically everything was lost. It was a construction that had taken a year and a half of repairs. Even the window that faced the factory was completely consumed. There was the kitchen where we met as a family,” he explained.
Despite the material damage, Castro confirmed that none of his family members were affected by the gases or flames. “Thank God there were no injuries, they are only structural losses,” he said.
The emergency kept the inhabitants of the sector in suspense until dawn, while units of the Bogotá Fire Department controlled the critical points and prevented the spread of the fire to other buildings.
Regarding the factory where the fire originated, Omar Castro indicated that he knows the owner although they have not yet discussed responsibilities or possible measures to repair the damage.
“We did not touch on that issue. We will wait to see what happens in the coming days,” he commented.

The authorities are carrying out the investigation to determine the causes of the fire and the condition of the affected building. The community hopes that accompanying measures will be taken for the neighbors who were harmed by the emergency.
