The 1st Court of Control in Matters of Violence Against Women of Trujillo decreed a sentence consisting of 20 years and 8 months in prison for José Ignacio Pérez Suárez (63) after he admitted his responsibility in the frustrated femicide against his romantic partner (23), the Prosecutor’s Office reported.
The event occurred on October 17, 2024 inside a home located on one of the farms in the Monte Carmelo parish; belonging to the homonymous municipality of Trujillo.
During the aforementioned day, the woman was doing household chores when Pérez Suárez appeared at the scene with an aggressive attitude towards her; and began to insult her and accuse her of infidelity.
Seeing Pérez Suárez’s alteration, the victim ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife to defend himself. Seeing this reaction, the man went to his room, looked for a firearm and shot the woman; which caused a wound to the abdomen, the report says. After what happened, the perpetrator went to his friend’s house to request support and transfer the woman to a nearby health center.
Once in the medical unit, Cicpc officials took statements about the incident and apprehended the aggressor to place him at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office.
In the preliminary hearing, the 12th Prosecutor’s Office of Trujillo ratified the accusation against Pérez Suárez for the commission of femicide aggravated by frustration and illicit possession of a weapon.
Once the admission of facts by the accused was heard, the 1st Court of Control in Matters of Violence Against Women in that Andean entity handed down the sentence against Pérez Suárez and ordered that he serve his sentence at the Cicpc headquarters located in Sabana de Mendoza, Trujillo state.
