Medellín georeferences more than 2,000 informal seller modules to optimize urban management.
The Administration of Medellín has made a technological leap in urban management, implementing for the first time the complete georeferencing of its urban furniture, specifically the marketing modules of regulated informal sellers.

This advance, which already identifies more than 2,000 modules with exact location and status, seeks to move from “disorder and improvisation” to a model based on reliable data.
This new technological tool allows us to improve planning, regulation and control of public space in all communes and townships.
At the heart of this innovation is the ArcGIS Field Maps tool, which makes it easy to capture and update key information in real time, including physical condition (due to damage or vandalism), type of occupancy and availability.
With this precision, the District can verify the conditions of legality in the occupation and assign the available spaces to those who meet the requirements.
David Ramírez, Undersecretary of Public Space, highlighted the impact of the measure:
“This georeferencing marks a before and after in the management of public space. “We are moving from disorder and improvisation to a model based on real information, technology and transparency.”
Among the immediate results, the precise identification of each module and the optimization of the use of public space stand out.

It is important to highlight that, The mayor’s office is already planning to expand georeferencing coverage to new commercial corridors and high-occupancy areas, consolidating a more efficient and transparent management model for the capital of Antioquia.
