- We want the students to grow up healthy, strong and happy, that is the main objective in schools today, he stated.
At Secondary School No. 93 “Martín Luis Guzmán”, located in the Gustavo A. Madero mayor’s office of Mexico City, the Secretary of Public Education (SEP), Mario Delgado Carrillo, led the activities of the third National Day for Peace and Against Addictions promoted by the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, in which more than 5 million members of the secondary, high school and university school communities participate. This day aims to promote environments of healthy coexistence and inform about the damage caused by drug use.
During the day, Delgado Carrillo called on students, teachers, mothers and fathers to form a common front against addictions, to protect the children and youth of Mexico. He stressed the importance of “living happy, healthy, strong and being the healthiest generation in the history of our country.”
In the playground of the secondary school, which will turn 70 years old in 2027, the secretary participated along with 487 students, teachers, mothers and fathers in cultural, artistic and sports activities that are part of the Day and that seek to strengthen the cohesion of the school community.
The head of the SEP pointed out that we must all become aware of the damage that drugs cause to health, to the body and to the mind. “We want them to grow up healthy, to grow strong and to grow up happy; that is the main objective of schools in our country today: that they arrive happy, feel happy and there is a lot of respect among them,” he expressed.
Delgado Carrillo asked the students not to bully or make anyone feel bad, because we are all equal. “We all have emotions, feelings, and there are times when one comes home sad, happy or angry, but when you arrive at school and find a group of friends who treat each other well, who have fun and learn together, that is really very comforting,” he said.
After listening to the reading by the general director of Operation and Educational Services of the Federal Educational Authority in Mexico City (AEFCDM), Mario Chávez Campos, of a poem about the importance of reaching agreements between people, the secretary congratulated the teachers for their participation in the Conference and, above all, for opening the school to the community, so that mothers and fathers know how to work for the well-being of their daughters and sons.
The head of the SEP stressed that it is essential for mothers and fathers to collaborate from home, talking with their daughters and sons and offering them complementary information about the harm caused by drugs. “It is very important that families know what is happening in schools, so that they help us reinforce all that knowledge and teaching,” he added.
Finally, Israel Leyva Morales, director of the school, commented that it is up to the school communities to build peace, ensuring that each student feels good when going to school, in an environment of respect, without harassment, discrimination or racism. “It is about,” he added, “that we all see each other as equal.”
During his presence at Secondary School No. 93 “Martín Luis Guzmán, Delgado Carrillo visited the cooperative where he confirmed that healthy foods are consumed; he toured classrooms, the library, workshops and participated in the Podcast “Sonar de la 93”, produced by the students of the campus’s Radio and Television Workshop.
