The Puebla Group congratulated Argentina and President Alberto Fernández on Sunday for the agreement reached with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and considered that the negotiation was carried out “always watching over the interests” of the country and “those who need it most”before which the president thanked “hugely the support” of the leaders of that coalition.
“We are aware that the debt contracted during the neoliberal government of Mauricio Macri has brought enormous consequences to the Argentine people, and in the face of that, the current Argentine authorities have acted in the negotiation always looking out for the interests of Argentina, and those who need it most,” said a statement released by the Puebla Group.
What’s more, the organization repudiated “the violence to which the office of the vice president, Cristina Fernández, was subjected” when referring to the attacks against Congress last Friday, in the framework of the treatment of the project in accordance with the IMF in the Chamber of Deputies.

President Fernández “greatly thanked the leaders of the Puebla Group (@ProgresaLatam) for the support of the agreement with the IMF”, as well as “their concern about the violent events of Thursday”, through a message published on the account of Twitter.
“When Latin America unites, it goes further,” said Alberto Fernández.
The Puebla Group highlighted the “overwhelming approval” that the agreement received in Parliament and expressed its desire that the credit organization “does not reproduce the serious errors of the recessive policies imposed” on the country previously.
In this sense, the text indicated that the IMF must ensure “the necessary space in economic policy for Argentina to initiate a sustained economic and social recovery.”

The Puebla Group has 54 progressive leaders from 16 countries and its objective is to strengthen regional integration, promote debate and articulate the design of programs and models committed to growth with inclusion, access to work, education, health and decent housing.
Among the signatories of the statement are the former president of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvathe former president of Ecuador Rafael Correathe former president of Spain Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapaterothe former president of Paraguay Fernando Lugo and the former president of Colombia and coordinator of the Group, Ernest Samper.
