Former members of the Calima Block are convicted for massacres in Valle del Cauca

The Prosecutor’s Office convicted 35 former members of the Calima Block of the ACCU for massacres and crimes against humanity in the Valley and other regions.

The Prosecutor’s Office convicted 35 former members of the Calima and Bananero Block of the ACCU for 345 crimes, including massacres in Valle del Cauca and other departments.

The Attorney General’s Office reported that 35 former members of the Calima and Bananero blocks belonging to the extinct Peasant Self-Defense Forces of Córdoba and Urabá were convicted after being found responsible for 345 criminal acts that occurred in departments such as Valle del Cauca, Antioquia, Cauca, Huila and Quindío.

According to the entity, The members of the Calima Block were responsible for having participated in massacres that occurred in towns such as San Pedro, Chorreras, San Lorenzo and Piedritasthe latter being perpetrated in a rural area of ​​the municipality of Tuluá.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the Piedritas massacre took place in September 1999, when armed men entered several of the villages of the San Rafael district and caused the death of 13 residents of the area.

In the middle of this situation A massive displacement of citizens was generated, who were stripped of their property, and there is also a record of having caused gender violence against two women.who were victims of kidnapping and were subjected to torture and cruel treatment there shortly before being murdered.

The institution mentioned that The decision made by the Justice and Peace Chamber was driven by situations such as the support received by businessmen and members of the Public Force for the expansion of the Calima Block.

For the Prosecutor’s Office, the actions of this armed group had a series of common patterns before perpetrating their acts, among which Several cases of homicide, gender violence, recruitment and forced disappearance stand out.

The entity revealed that among those sentenced for this act are Hebert Veloza García, alias HH; Juan Mauricio Aristizábal, alias Fino; Albeiro Úsuga Graciano, alias Robinson, Daison López Simanca, Janier Franco, Germán Enrique Pineda and Rover Enrique Oviedo.

It should be noted that those involved were sentenced to ordinary sentences ranging between 240 and 480 months in prison.
